On Sunday Night, June 13th, the MPHS Band Family lost a dear friend and integeral part of the program with the passing of John Mulé. John has been the Assistant Band Director in charge of Color Guard since 1997. Over the years he has helped the MPHS guard grow into a respected unit throughout the marching band community. John has also served as the guard instructor at Fair Lawn, Pascack Hills, Sparta, and Indian Hills High Schools over the past 18 years. There have been many comments since John's passing about his influence and importance on the program. His wake and funeral were attended by over 90 current and former members of the MPHS Band. This included 14 drum majors and 9 Guard Captains. Below are just some of the tributes to John.

Thank you for reaching out. This news comes as a surprise, I suppose, because I've been way out of the MPHS loop. Lauren O'Leary filled me in that he'd been battling cancer. ...I send my sympathies to you and to the band, and to all the students whose lives he touched. I'm sorry to not be sitting there as a former drum major and color guard captain. He was a good man... amazing to think of how long ago he started with us. What a terrible loss. - Victoria Portsmore - Drum Major 2001

Said goodbye to a friend today who helped take an often orphaned marching band and turn it into a stable, successful one giving many years to the program. We'll miss you John! - Kristie Prokop - Drum Major 1997

I wish I could have been there today... Thoughts and prayers from Texas !
Ashley Fisher - Guard Class of 2007

I'm soooo glad so many people came out to show support. I'm sending love and prayers from Pittsburgh!
Lauren O’Leary - Guard Captain Class of 2005

I was thinking about you all this week--I'm glad to hear so many people were able to attend the services. John will surely be missed.
Cate Brennan - Drum Major 2000

The marching band just got that much closer...
